My Story
D’onte J. Carroll, Sr. was born and raised in Washington, DC on October 5, 1991, to Robert E. Johnson, Jr. and Tamara L. Ford (formerly, Tamara L.Carroll). Brought up in Christian Fellowship Baptist Church since a toddler it was there that he was introduced to God, reared, and gained his foundation in the Christian faith. At the tender age of 13, D’onte gave his life to Christ and Joined Varick Memorial A.M.E Zion Church in Washington, DC under the leadership of then Pastor Heath Cheek. It was also at the age of 13 where D’onte recognized that there was a call on his life to preach. It was not until the age of 16 when he preached his first sermon at Christian Center Union Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD where his father, Rev. Robert E. Johnson, Jr. is the Pastor, recognized and acknowledged the call on his life and gave him multiple opportunities to get his feet wet and sharpen his gift and call in the ministry. On May 25, 2013, D’onte was licensed and ordained to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served on the ministerial staff at House of God Christian Tabernacle in Suitland, MD under the leadership of Bishop Timothy Walton.
D’onte is a thought-provoking and trailblazing writer and poet. He wrote his first poem, Black and Free, in the eighth grade while attending St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. It was this same poem that was nominated by his teacher, Charlene Williams, to be published in The Teacher’s Selection Anthology of Poetry 2005 Edition. But it was not until he attended Archbishop Carroll Senior High School during his twelfth-grade year where D’onte gained notoriety and became well known for his poetry, style of writing in repetition, and addressing challenging topics where he fully realized he was born to be a writer and to leave a paper trail of his thoughts on life, current events and his trials that will echo when he is long gone. On January 16, 2012, D’onte released his first book, From Pain to Poetic Justice: Reflections in Poetry, which is an anthology of poems majority of which he wrote in high school. In 2017, he released his second book, Saved, Sanctified and Addicted to Porn: Overcoming Sexual Perversion, where he details his battle of a porn addiction at the tender age of 13-years of age, the same year he made a decision to give his life to Christ.
A graduate of Archbishop Carroll High School, D’onte received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Strayer University. Currently, D’onte is pursuing his Master’s of Divinity at Wesley Theological Seminary. Currently, D'onte is an associate minister at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church.
